11:50AM - कुछ आँसूं कुछ मोती

Sangita is a friend who shares my love for poetry and was one of the very few readers of my early writings. When she visited my site yesterday, she wanted to know as to why have I not published any of my new Hindi poetry here – I promised her I will and here it is -

11:43PM - Relax

It has been a long time since I wrote something substantial. Today I felt the urge to write something for the joy of writing. And write I shall without ranting. In fact, what better topic than how to beat the stress and relax. So here are some obvious and some surprising things that seem to work for me.

For a long time, [info]doktortong & [info]karthikdinakar have been suggesting that I need to go to a gym. It so happens that everytime I go there in the evenings, I'm convinced that it makes me too tired for a workday. The surprising part is that even if I do go at mornings on workdays, it still turns out to be ok. If anything, it does seem to have a visibly calming effect on me. Yet, I am still finding it hard to reach my initial levels of 3 trips a week.

Watching brain numbing programmes on the idiot box has been another therapy that has served me well over the years. WWE used to be a prime candidate at some point. Pimp my ride was another example. These days I've been rewarded with the mother of all such serials in form of Rakhi Sawant ka swayamvar. This masterpiece most certainly deserves a writeup of it's own but that is for another day.

Then there is the time tested technique of talking it out(pardon the alliteration). If something is bothering you, just find a patient listener and pour it all out. It still works to this day. And I'm talking of real listeners; not the 1000 twitter followers you bought for $87.

A solitary walk on a cloudy and windy day where there is hardly any vehicular movement around is a surreal experience.

Writing would have made it to the list but for the fact that there seems to be set notion of having conclusion to anything you write. I've always found it very hard since my schooling days to come up with a meaningful conclusion of any essay and to this day, I face that difficulty. Barring that minor inconvenience caused by tradition, writing would also qualify in the list. And as sign of protest and in a quest to remain relaxed, I shall end this piece without a proper conclusion.

7:52PM - skating rink

Anyone know of a skating rink near Cooke Town ?

(The one in Coles Park is apparently for children under 12 years.)

12:44PM - Straight

Straight

Straight

Bought the “Straight” DVD  for Sunday afternoon viewing as the cast looked promising . I did not have any expectations from the movie but it surprised me with some real good editing and direction techniques. One technique I particularly liked was dropping of a truck in front of the moving car to show the transition between London to  India…

The movie is not really racy, but its  a light flick -so it serves the purpose. Subject of the move is bold/controversial/taboo which speaks for the A certificate from censor board..

Vinay Pathak as Pinu, the protagonist has done some good work – but then he is a fine actor and nothing less can be expected of him. Gul Panag looks ravishing, the dimples on her cheeks particularly cute, has done a great job of her somewhat limited role. She has lovely husky voice that sounds very sincere as she delivers her dialogues.

Pinu Patel (Vinay Pathak) is a London based restaurateur and owns Gaylord, which serves Indian cuisine. A simple man with tiny complexities in life such as being a virgin and his to be wife running away from the marriage pendal (he goes to India to get married) makes him doubt his self worth. An introvert, he has a nagging aunt, an uncle and a cousin (Rajat) who is a friend. He returns from India and lies about his marital status and tells everyone that his wife will join him later.

11:44AM - Alfred Hitchcock Collection – A review

Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock

I picked up the box of Alfred Hitchcock Collection because

  • It had one of my favorite movie – Rebecca
  • It was less than INR500/- for six movies from the master of suspense, thus an undeniable ‘Steal’

Well actually the box, marketed by moserbaer in India, is priced INR549/- but if you have good contacts with your neighborhood video store you get upto 10% discount on almost every thing. Of the six movies at least four appear to have been digitally remastered / cleaned up and an absolute treat to watch.

If you don’t know anything about Rebbeca here is a small something to whet your appetite

So dainty I don't
Want to touch you, but I so
Want to be like you.

11:25AM - You are not beautiful

Nupur - you are and always will be!!!

Nupur - you are and always will be!!!

“You are not beautiful” These harsh words have to be endured by almost every girl/woman at some or the time of her life – unfortunately it is the chauvinistic setup of the society we live in. However it is not just male chauvinism which is at play here but something which angers me much more, though this is in no way tolerance or acceptance of MCP behaviour by men.

4:44PM - 3 more jQuery plugins

Last week Aditya released two jQuery plugins

Without a doubt jQuery is the favorite javascript framework for everyone at SANIsoft. Developing plugins for jQuery is very easy and very well documented.

4:11PM - A face for the unnamed… …

Sangita De

Sangita - always a friend!

Sangita! If there was anyone in my life I place after my mother it would be her. Even though she is just a year older to me she always held that place of a woman I could go to for comfort. I have known her since I was fifteen. We grew up together, kept in touch for a long long time but as fate would have it, life took somewhat divergent paths about ten years ago.
